Beauty Leftovers: 5 Beauty Products I’m Finally Getting To Know

Happy 2018! I hope that 2017 was everything you all ever wanted and more. For me, it was a year full of new and amazing experiences (which I will definitely be sharing soon) and I’m beyond excited to see what 2018 has in store for me.

I thought a good way to ease me into the new year was to carry over some beauty products that I picked up late last year and didn’t really get a chance to get as acquainted with as I would have liked. After leaving Sephora in 2016, I realized I didn’t reach for makeup nearly as often as I used to. Don’t get me wrong, I was for sure still picking little things up here and there, but nothing caught my eye like before. That changed a bit in the last few months of 2017 and I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of regularly wearing a full face of makeup again.

 

Eyes:

Cargo Star Wars: The Last Jedi eyeshadow palettes in Dark Side and Light Side: When I heard there would be another Star Wars makeup line I was absolutely over the moon! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on everything. Not going to lie though, I have had these two palettes for about two months now and I’ve used the Dark Side palette once. I was a bit surprised when I got them because they don’t feel like they’re that different. I want to work with them a little bit more and do a full in-depth review once the rest of the Cargo x Star Wars line comes out, but as of right now I’m not very impressed.

Cheeks:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Kit in Gradient: Before this blush palette addition, I had three blushes in my collection, but only used the Too Faced Love Flush blush in Your Love is King. I don’t even remember where I first saw this palette, but when I saw Blackberry, I immediately added it to my shopping cart. The sheer amount of color payoff is wild! I’m used to building up my blush, but I have to go in with a very light hand with this blush or I look like I’ve got a rash. I’m so excited to use Vegas in the warmer months!

Lips:

Urban Decay Vice lipstick palette in Rio: This was an Instagram impulse buy. That darn targeted advertising got me again. The lipsticks in this palette aren’t new to my knowledge and I actually own two of them in bullet form, but I couldn’t let the beautiful Patrick Nagel Rio art slip by me. Rio is one of my all time favorite albums and honestly, anything vinyl or music related is a must have. The lipsticks are great and it’s nice to be able to carry a selection with me without my bag being taken over by lipstick tubes, but this was 100% a package driven purchase and I have no regrets!

Sephora Collection #Lipstories Lipstick in #10 Yum Yum: Sephora has been slowly reworking their Sephora Collection for over a year now and they finally got to their lipsticks. The new #Lipstories are only $8 and they are worth every penny and so much more. I picked this perfect black girl nude up for a wedding and it has very quickly replaced Kat Von D’s Lolita as my all time favorite nude lipstick. The formula is hydrating and long wearing and it doesn’t settle into the dry patches that often come with cold weather. I really have to stop myself from buying one every time I open my Sephora app.

Nails:

Essie polish in Island Hoppin’: Like many of the other lovely things I “collect,” I have way too many nail polishes I don’t use. I can usually justify not getting more, but I was $5 from free shipping with Amazon and needed something small and stumbled upon this Essie polish. I’m already an Essie fan, but this is my all time favorite color. It’s a great nude for brown skin, but it’s just a beautiful mauve! I can’t wait to bust it out more this year because despite being a little more subdued, I feel like it’s the perfect year round color.

 

 

 

Honorable mentions: 

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette: I think I got in a bit over my head with this one. We all remember the drama that happened shortly after this palette was released. You needed to layer the colors to build them up, not blend like you could with ABH’s wildly popular Renaissance palette. People said it wasn’t for beginners. No biggie, I worked at Sephora for a while… well, I mean, I did, but let’s be real, I pretty much stuck to a variation of the same eye look and I’m a blender, not a builder. This palette kicked my butt and I’m still trying to be friends with it… one horribly muddled eye look at a time. I won’t let it win.

Fenty Beauty Eclipse 2-In-1 Glitter Liner in Later, Crater: The concept of this eyeliner intrigued me. You line your eyes like you would with any liquid liner, let it dry, and then “rub” the dried liner to reveal glitter! It definitely works as advertised, so I have no issues with that, but I wish the formula was a bit less watery. I typically use the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Mad Max Brown and perhaps the difference is that the product is stored in the body of the liner as opposed to a separate tube, but I felt like the liner was slipping all around and I had to work at keeping it from getting all over my eyes. The color is beautiful, so I guess I’ll just work with the formula.
